Kaninda Designs
The Funk of Fashion for Every Woman
With the knowledge and confidence gained from a Clothing Production course Lilla Gagliano of Kaninda Designs didn’t waste any time diving straight into the fashion pool. Ever since that day she has well and truly been making waves.
Her designs are truly unique. Her hand painted scarves and dresses hark back to the naturalistic landscape colours of Australia but also speak to a generation with a fun loving attitude, those who enjoy getting into mischief and are always looking for excitement. The designs reflect her indigenous background but have an appeal to the general market.
Kaninda Designs is a label aimed at women between the ages of 18 to 30 the same demographic that will make up the majority at this year’s Every Woman Expo where for the first time in the events history visitors will be able to witness first hand the quirky and funked up pieces that make up the Kaninda label.
Previously Lilla has displayed her designs at the Lions Fenacle Festival held in Karratha in 2003 and at the Say It Loud Youth Festival held in Dampier in 2004. These parades led Lilla to being commissioned by the Karratha Youth Housing Project and the Police and Citizens Youth Club to design and outfit 15 bodies for a grooming and deportment modelling program.
Currently Lilla is one of close to 70 local designers participating in the Designedge fashion incubator located at the Belmont Forum Shopping Centre. The Designedge fashion incubator is a creative retail outlet that showcases the talents of local fashion designers. The largest community incubator of it’s kind in Australia the outlet not only gives local fashion designers a chance to display their work but it gives interested parties the chance to make an appointment and meet the designer in person.
For a nominated fee buyers can get clothing accessories and jewellery custom made to suit individual sizes and styles. It is a fantastic venue for new designers to network, gain work experience or discuss new ideas and there are always plenty of trade seminars information evenings fashion parades and fashion sales taking place.
