Simply Elegant

Shelk Designs is a label that incorporates the beauty of jewelry with the underlying meaning of the stones used and of course a wonderful and unique sense of design.

Designer, Michelle Kelly, began the label in 2002 after studying jewelry, metal and 3D design at Curtin University in Perth WA and taking out the time to thoroughly explore the world and all the cultural inspirations it held.

Michelle currently lives in the southwest region of WA and works with sterling silver, gold and semi-precious stones.  Michelle sense of exploration will never leave her and this shows through in her designs. Says Michelle, “I enjoy working with a variety of materials and in further works would like to explore other mediums.  Sculptural pieces for the body will be my main aim for future exhibitions.”

Michelle’s designs are currently influenced by Celtic and Nordic body armour, weapons and artworks. The shield series is an abstract version of protection, whether that be protection from the unknown or fear of things we are aware of.  Incorporating stones gives the pieces another form of protection as each stone has a belief of some sort.

The spear series designs are minimal with a simplicity that is timeless.  They incorporate gold and silver together to give a certain elegance and preciousness to the pieces. It is also with pride that Michelle likes to point out that her pieces are, “quality hand made pieces, made in Australia.”

Shelk Designs pieces have been worn on models in the Model of the Future 2003 event at eh Playhouse Theatre.

Shelk Designs will be showcasing their jewelry at designedge – TCF Australia uncovered, Western Australia’s inaugural textile, clothing footwear and leather exhibition being held at the Burswood Exhibition and Convention Centre, September 23 – 25, 2003
