Naturally Darling, it's Fashion!
Yak hair is not exactly an image that you associate with fashion.
But designer Elizabeth Adnorno would have to disagree. It’s appeal for her lies in the fact that it is a natural fibre and she shares this love with other less radical materials such as hemp, silk and satin. She uses these materials and her flair for design to create a label of casual chic womens wear.
Elizabeth began her foray into fashion in 1989 by screen printing tee shirts and casual wear in the style of street and surf. Her passion for fabric, colour and mark making led her into the industry. Elizabeth is a very accomplished designer and business person in general. She has completed a completed a BA Visual Arts (Textiles), studied Commercial Textile Design in the UK and completed freelance illustration for various clothing manufacturers. Her textile designs have been selected for sale on European markets.
As well as this thorough grounding in fashion Elizabeth studied Graphic Design & worked as a graphic designer for 5 years including working for an advertising agency and freelance for various companies. Elizabeth worked on large scale events including the "Forest Rally" held in Busselton, WA, creating the artwork for the majority of the promotional material including: signs, brochures, posters, tickets, T-shirts and caps.
She is now launching her self titled fashion label at DesignEdge. Her research into her designs has taken her to New Zealand, Japan, England, France, Italy, Canada & USA.
Her range includes a selection of tops and dresses for the summer season. Her garments are concept driven from a historical reference point, namely Elizabethan/Victorian England which ties in with using the hemp fabrics as this was a fabric used during these times. These fabrics are dyed and printed using sustainable design techniques with every thought to protecting the environment. Elizabeth incorporates opulence, decoration and adornment using rich colours and beading. However these are dealt with lightly and with a fresh, feminine approach.
Elizabeth Adnorno will be showcasing her range at designedge – TCF Australia uncovered, Western Australia’s inaugural textile, clothing footwear and leather exhibition being held at the Burswood Exhibition and Convention Centre, September 23 – 25, 2003
