Local business owner Steve Rose has kindly donated space at his Belmont based Flash Pan Mobile Wash to an entrepreneurial sewing project in Ormoc, the Philippines. The initiative was set up in 2007 by the Textile, Clothing and Footwear Resource Centre of WA Inc. (TCFWA) along with the Business and Professional Women’s Clubs of Belmont & Western Australia (BPW) and the Matilda Bay Rotary Club. The initiative has recently been awarded the International Business and Professional Women’s Club 3rd prize globally in the ‘Make A Difference’ Awards. The Community Sewing Project assists residents of Ormoc and surrounding areas in the Philippines to establish their own micro sewing businesses to produce adults’ and children’s clothing, uniforms and home wares. The project helps facilitate the collection of various sewing materials, and ship them via container to more than 25 sewing centres across Ormoc. To date we have shipped 2 container loads of items such as sewing machines, fabric and haberdashery to the region.
